Since when do we have tap water?

Back in the days every bigger farm in the village used to have a deep well. The water of the village stream was not suitable for drinking. The wells may have dried out or frozen and were prone for various diseases. It was a great event when Denzlingen got a central water supply in 1911. On this occasion a "well monument" was erected next to the townhall. It was designed as a war memorial.

Did you know that the wells of our water supply lie at the end of the Glottertal?

At present many people can no longer imagine that just over a hundred years ago drinking water had to be drawn from a well in the courtyard. In everyday life, hardly anyone thinks about the distance the water has to travel from the springs to the tap and how we can ensure that we always have clean water in the house. Accordingly the joy was great in Denzlingen when a central water supply system was completed in the year 1911. On the square between the school building, the Evangelical church of St. Georg and the old town hall, a magnificent monument, from which water constantly gushed, was erected. In the same year a water reservoir in form of an elevated tank was built on the western slope of the Brestenberg. Due to the natural gradient, the water reached the households via water pipes. Later electrical pumps were installed.
