St. Michael, Hauptstr. 101

Why is the "Storchenturm" placed
next to the church?

The "Storchenturm" is Denzlingen's landmark. But the tower does not stand on the east side above the altar, as it is the case with church of St. Georg. The tower is located on the south side of the nave. In this place, between St. Michael and the parish hall (now "Rebstock-Stube") there probably once stood the court lime tree. If you visit the place east of the church, where the tower actually belongs, you can still see the foundations!

You are in front of the entrance to the church of St. Michael, the oldest parish church in Denzlingen. It was first documented in the 13th century. However, the beginnings of the church may even go back further.

The striking tower, which now stands to the right of the church, became the landmark of the village. Since the beginning of the 20th century storks have been building their nests on the top of the tower where they are raising their offspring.

Originally, the tower was located to the east of the church. There the foundations are still visible. At that time the nave opened into a choir room, which formed the lowest floor of the tower. It was probably not until the 16th century, when the church lost its function as a church, that the tower was added to the south of the nave.
